WAIT UNTIL DARK:

Wait Until Dark - 02/17/07 - Denise was cast as Suzy Hendrix, a recently blinded woman in a deadly game of survival. Lobby Hero - 10/21/06 - Denise was cast as Officer Dawn Wilson in this Kenneth Lonergan play. Lobby Hero opened the season with Actor's Theatre and closed Oct. 21st.

When a security guard at a high-rise apartment building in Manhattan is drawn into a local murder investigation, loyalties are strained to the breaking point. A tightly wound supervisor is called to bear witness against his troubled brother, and an attractive rookie cop (Denise Elia) finds she must stand up to her seasoned partner. Truth becomes elusive and justice proves costly.

"Dawn (well-played by Denise Elia)... Entertainingly conceived and very well acted by a tight, chemistry-loaded cast, Lobby Hero is a rich, rough gem of a show...a first-rate production." - David Templeton, The Bohemian Oct. 2006

Sweet Charity

Denise was cast as "Helene" in the 1960s musical Sweet Charity at the 6th Street Playhouse that ran from November 18 through December 11, 2005.

Reviewer Commentary (from www.nbtg.org):

-"...Let me start with the attractive Denise Elia. Sweet voice, nice dancer, a stage personality and someone who will attain a larger role soon."

-"...Like her dancing, Denise Elia's singing is excellent; indeed she grabs your attention and really makes you feel the emotional qualities of the music. Her moments with the other Fandango Hostesses are adorable and very entertaining. There is a lovely rapport between Elia and Emily Hough, who plays Nickie."

-"...Extremely vivid performances come from Denise Elia playing Helene and Emily Hough as Nickie. Elia & Hough showed outstanding vocal range with the intimate Baby, Dream Your Dream."

Center for the Arts - State University of New York at Buffalo

Teatro Italiano performed On Being Woman, Dario Fo & Franca Rame's Female Parts in Nov. 1999. The show featured dance and three 20-30 minute monologues based on A Woman Alone, The Rape, and Sex, Thanks A Lot For Wanting Some.

The show was filmed and is presently used as a documentary in celebration of woman's spirit. Denise and her friend, Jamie, are pictured at left on campus.

The International Artistic and Cultural Exchange (IACE) offers acting students the chance to participate in worldwide theatre festivals. The top right photo was taken in Madrid by Denise as fellow L'Orchestre cast members walked to an art gallery before their tour of Spain. Below left, is a photo of Altea, a small town on the Mediterranean. Below right,  is the cast and crew.

The Center for the Arts performance of Steven Berkoff's Agamemnon was a physically demanding ensemble piece (note the knee pads as Denise and friends joke around backstage at left). The entire cast was nominated for best ensemble cast in the nation by adjudicators of the Kennedy Center's American College Theatre Festival. At right, the tough men of Agamemnon.

Hot L Baltimore was a 1970's play based on the Hotel Lafayette in Buffalo, NY (left). The letter "E" is purposely missing in the title to reflect the burnt out letter of a hotel sign. At left, the cast could no longer resist the 70's groove.
